How do I set certain bypass when my phone is on vibrate or silent. I would like to have certain contacts ring no matter what setting my phone is on

I found a solution!! If you hold down on the "Sound" icon that turns on silent mode, you can then set the Ringtone and Notification Sound as "Silent". This essentially makes your Sound mode a Silent mode for all contacts and notifications. Next, if you go to edit the contacts that you want to come through, you can give them an actual ringtone or vibration.

This workaround lets the contacts of your choice sound come through but everything else will be silent. You could also go the routines route like some other comments have mentioned.

This worked great, its still silly we can't do it, I know I've set custom ringtones for people so its weird they can't override.. But this ridiculous that $1000+ phones can't do this natively.

But IFTTT would work also

You can set up a second routine that turns it back to silent as soon as the call is answered. It will automatically return to silent even if it goes to voicemail. I've been using these 2 routines together to make my phone ring when my wife calls and go back to silent when I answer and it works perfectly. It's very dumb that there is not an option to do this without having to go through routines but it is a working option.

Hi,

I'm not one to comment on a forum, but I've been p****d at samsung for so long about that issue that when I found how to do it, I had to create an account just to share. For reference, I use the galaxy s24 FE, v.14.

I don't know for how long the feature was implanted, but if you go in your contacts --> information --> more-->  change ringtone/vibration--> ringtone, you should find a box "ring even when set to vibrate or silent"

Hope it helps!

Unfortunately for me, when I try this, when I set the sound as silent or turn the volume down to 0, it just bumps the phone into the vibrate or silent mode.  Tried the contacts --> information --> more-->  change ringtone/vibration--> ringtone  "ring even when set to vibrate or silent" and that also seems to not work.  Kind of a bad thing since I almost never have my phone out of vibrate and have on call duties for my job.

2025 and this is still an issue 🙄

I never new this was an issue until recently when I woke up to missed calls from my husband. Having teenagers who are driving and out with friends I assumed their late night calls (if they ever came through) would override the silent mode when on DND the same way alarms do.

This needs to be fixed. The option shared above about going into the contract and allowing to ring if on silent or vibrate is good but I don't want that all day just when on DND because at work my phone is in my locker and not on me.

Samsung sort it out!

Pull up your apps (swipe up). In search bar type "modes". Open "modes and routines". Scroll down to "address mode".  In "turn on automatically" field add condition "incoming call". Next screen select " from specific callers". Select callers then done. Bottom of screen "add condition" find "sound mode" select "vibrate". Below "choose what this mode does" select "add more actions for this mode". Then "add action " . Select "sound mode  and volume " turn up the volume to desired setting. Select done. Finally, turn on the script at the top of the screen under mode name.

Hope the screenshots help.
