Android Auto does not close on phone after exiting car

When starting Android Auto, the phone goes into a kind of black "untouchable" mode. When leaving the car and shutting it off, the phone stays in that mode and I need to do a hard reset (vol- & on/off button).

I connect wireless.

What to do?

Strange that behaviour was ditched by AA long ago.

Options are tweak the AA settings, alternatively disconnect the phone from the car AA and BT, and start a new pair, connection.

To stop Wireless AA I had to use AA developer mode.
