I have an Sumsung side by side fridge model number RS264. A few days ago it started chiming like it does when the door is left open for a few minutes.  The doors were closed and the ice and water dispensers did not work. Both the fridge and freezer had good stable temperature. I removed the covers over the top hinges on both the doors. Each side has a small white proximity sensor that is activated by a small magnet in the door. I removed and tested each switch using an ohmmeter and a small but strong fridge magnet we use to hold photos to the front of the fridge doors. Both switches tested good by a closed circuit when I put the magnet next to the sensor and an open circuit when I moved the magnet away from the sensor. I reinstalled both sensors and then put the strong magnet next to each sensor at the top of the fridge with them connected. When I did this on the freezer door the chime alarm stopped and the water and ice maker all worked. When I moved the magnet away the chime came back on and the ice and water stopped.  I removed the sensor magnet from the door and was able to replace it with the stronger magnet I was using to test the sensors. Doing this completely fixed the problem. Now the annoying chim has stopped and my ice and water dispensers are working.  It appears that over the years the magnet lost some of its strength and eventually was not strong enough to activate the sensor. I did not know that a magnet would do this.
