Dear SmartThings Developer Support/Samsung Developer Support
I am currently using the SmartThings API to integrate my Samsung NV7B42304CK/U1 oven into Home Assistant. While the integration works well for controlling various oven functions, I’ve encountered a significant limitation with the oven light that impacts usability.
The oven light automatically turns off after 2 minutes, regardless of whether the light was turned on manually, via the SmartThings app, or through the API. Even when I send repeated setBrightnessLevel commands (e.g., setting the light to "high" every minute), the built-in timer overrides these commands and turns the light off after 2 minutes.
This limitation significantly affects use cases where the user might want the light to remain on for longer periods—for example, to visually monitor cooking progress. As a user who has gone the extra mile to integrate the oven via the SmartThings API, it is frustrating to discover that this preset behavior cannot be overridden.
Feature Request: I would like to request a feature enhancement in the SmartThings API or firmware that allows:
- The option to disable the oven light timeout entirely (either via the SmartThings app or API).
- The ability to set a longer duration for the oven light timeout (e.g., user-configurable from 2 minutes to a custom value).
Why This Matters: This change would benefit both regular consumers using the SmartThings app and advanced users leveraging the SmartThings API for home automation. The ability to control the oven light without a forced timeout would make the oven more user-friendly and versatile for a wide range of scenarios.
I hope this feature request can be considered for future updates, either as an enhancement to the SmartThings API or as a firmware improvement for the oven.
Thank you for your attention, and I would be happy to provide additional details or feedback if needed.
Sincerely,
Glen Trust
