Hi
I have 2 disks in my PC, a Samsung EVO SSD (Boot/System), and a regular WD HD (1 TB).
The machine runs Windows 10 fully updated.
I have then bought a new Samsung 870 QVO of 2 TB, which is to replace the WD disk, I connect this to the machine via a Sandberg SATA - USB connector.
Disk Management finds the disk, but I can't get permission to initialize / format it. Is there a trick so I can get hold of the disk?
Please watch this video:

Samsung Magician results:

Hope the link works. 🙂

Could be a issue with your SATA to USB adapter. Seen it happen before, it makes drive appear but that's all it does it prevents you from formating it and so on. Try using another adapter and see if issue remains

Exactly. It was exactly the adapter that is apparently not compatible with a QVO SSD, or a disk larger than 1 TB. I installed the new SSD (2 TB) in the computer, Windows found it immediately and I was able to initialize and format the drive, then I connected the old WD 1 TB via the adapter cable and cloned the old drive onto the SSD and it works perfectly fine now
