Z Fold 6 phones on EBAY from re-sellers, would you or wouldn't you consider it ?

So I am still waiting on that Samsung Z Fold6 new offer / or free gifts that cause my trigger finger to snap furiously on the 'order button' :). Samsung deals haven’t really suited my needs yet. Chromebook ...No. Projector...No. Pre-order deals...No.

Perhaps black friday or Christmas might suit a good fold6 deal that i can't refuse.

In my impatience and boredom, I thought I would take a look at what re-selling is available on Ebay at this current time. In fact this week there seems an in-flux of Fold6 phones, both new, and pre-owned, just six weeks after the launch.

There are a lot of suspiciously priced items... and i think some strong due diligence is needed if even considering such a purchase.

So who would even consider an EBAY purchase at reduced costs ?  Personally I would check the seller credentials and insist on seeing a genuine receipt of purchase showing the outright payment. Obviously there are still some good trusted ebay sellers and with valid reasons for sale. But identifying the good from the bad is a risky task when there is such a high cost at stake.

I mean who really buys a phone for £1800 and sells a few weeks later for £1000. Additionally there are a LOT of brand new sealed boxes. It is even harder to understand how someone buys a phone and doesn't even open the box before selling it onwards for 70% if its cost. Maybe an unwanted phone upgrade for financial gain.

In the current world of scamming, i am super careful of who to buy from... I would steer clear of any that were not proven to be outright purchases, for instance, maybe an unwanted contract upgrade.

I guess if you get lucky, then a pristine UK unlocked phone with Samsung warranty is maintained and perhaps also adding in with some Samsung Care+ after purchase from Assurant, then there is a chance of getting a good, honest and expensive phone, for nearly half of its RRP at only 6 weeks since release.

My intuition says no… but if confirming a genuine seller that is willing to provide receipts, it makes this extremely tempting for the price savings.

Some get them as upgrades and then sell them on again as they need immediate cash.

Personally I would not buy a flagship at that sort of value from anywhere other than a recognised retailer. 👍

@Easty I think you are right, but that represents a large buyers risk.

Essentially if it is a upgrade on a contract, then it is not really theirs to sell... in effect it is a leased phone until it has been paid for in full.

If it is a contract upgrade, there is nothing stopping the previous owner from paying their contract for a few months to make things seem all genuine and then just stop paying or 'default' on their payments. The phone could then get IMEI locked and deactivated by their network.

This is just one of the many risks with reseller phones on ebay.

I would insist on seeing full price invoice for the whole purchase.

I would say stay well clear and look at something else
You could be lucky and get the one you want that's legit.
But a lot will be scams
People buying on finance and selling. Then stop paying and the phone then gets locked. Very expensive paperweight

Then the import phones that may not work properly and don't get updates. Bank cards not working etc.

Places like that is just asking for trouble with newly brought out phones

@Piper123 that is what my intuition says... although I am currently engaging with a seller of some 2400 positive and 100% feedback, bought the phone as a switch from Apple but just doesn't get on with android.

Paid in full directly from samsung a month ago and with a willingness to prove his invoice of purchase. Everything seems very genuine.

And it may prove to be

BUT if it goes wrong, it normally goes wrong once eBay protection time limits have expired and you've got yourself an expensive door wedge.

If you cannot afford / justify the upfront cost, maybe get it on a contract or even buy current from Samsung but on the 12 or 24 month interest free option.

That's my two penneth for what it's worth.

I appreciate the 'voice of reason' from other members.

That is what makes for a good forum... a place to ask the advice of other like-minded  'techies' and sometimes to also bring a sensible opinion back home.

I think the overwhelming opinion is clear... so i will just have to wait until the right deal becomes available, either directly at Samsung, or through a seller like Currys / Carphone warehouse or likewise.

There are some good contract deals to be had right now... but i feel uncomfortable tying myself into 24 / 36 month contracts, and much prefer to buy outright and go 'sim only' for only small costs a month.

I will see the fold users on the "dark side" soon enough though :smiling-face:
