Hi

I have a Z Flip 4.

Yesterday (31st March) there was a software update - build number F721BXXSAGYB2 - and immediately I had issues with the internal screen.

To get the internal screen working I have to do a hard reset with power and volume buttons.  After this as long as I keep the phone open the inner screen works fine and I can lock the phone and unlock and it just works as normal with no issues at all.

However, if I close the phone and then open again, the inner screen simply doesn't seem to wake and remains black. I have to do a hard reset again and simply keep the phone open.

Small outside screen seems to work ok.

Has anyone else had this issue?  Is it likely to be a software bug or hardware related?

Frustratingly the phone is 10 days outside warranty!

Hi @Ninjastewie  Welcome to the Samsung Community :smiling-face:

There have  reported issues with the Z fold 4 which would seem to relate to the hinge design  (more prevalent in this model).

Some Troubleshooting would be helpful before seeking advice, try a Soft Reset of your Device by holding the Power and Volume Down Buttons simultaneously until Ther Device Reboots. you could also try Safe  Mode in case any conflicts with 3rd party apps https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-to-start-my-galaxy-device-in-safe-mode/

clearing the cache partition is recommended after updates and the temporary cache files are deleted whilst your Data is intact.

1. Turn off the device.
2. Connect To Computer , other Device or TV USB, Press and hold the Volume Up key and then press and hold the Power key
3. When the Android logo displays, release both keys.
4. Wait until the Android system recovery menu options appear.
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
6. Press Power key to select.
7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

However your Device may  well need an inspection.

Hello 👋 @Ninjastewie

I would suggest to book the phone in ASAP with a Samsung Service Centre to see if they'll help even though the phone is beyond the initial Manufacturer's warranty.

https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/repair/

Also look at other sources of insurance such as Home Contents Insurance or some Bank Accounts provide cover as a perk of the account.

If i can be of any further help please don't hesitate to ask  😎

Makes me feel slightly better I'm not the only one but don't hold out much for a quick fix.

Hello @BandOfBrothers

Thanks but none of that is helpful.

When I spoke with Samsung they could not say what the cost of repair would be or if they could even fix it and to top it off the nearest repair center is over 2hrs away so not going to waste my time with that.

Home Insurance doesn't work like that as they will not cover this as there is no sign of damage.

Spoken with Samsung but they denied all knowledge of issue of course.   Maybe with few more reports they will fix with next update

I've had the same problem. I've been using mine without folding it now for about 3 months. Has anyone had the issue sorted with a local repair company. The phone is out of warranty and I'm still paying for it 😡
