If you swipe down. Your dark mode setting will be where I've highlighted
Unless you have a third party theme on1707586994738.jpg

Remember after a major update do a full system cache clean

Plenty of Google searches on doing this.
.....
If I helped or solved your problem, please like or tick solved.

Have been using phones since 1993, and am self taught.

I offer advice for free, cos I think it'll help, if it doesn't, explain why, I might learn something new too.

Current phone Galaxy S22 Ultra
Previous phones: most S series, Note 2, Samsung Alpha, iPhone 3gs, far too many Nokia's!

You misunderstood. The button is there yes, but the button whether on or off does practically nothing. The notifications drop down you show is either bright light or light light no dark mode takes effect after bs update

Right I see.
What have you tried so far?
A common thing to try is wiping the Partition Cashe on the phone
Especially after an update

Wiping the Partition Cashe clears out a lot of old or corrupted information that can cause issues

Follow the steps below. You must follow every step and you should be done in about a minute

Turn off your phone.

Connect your phone with a USB cable
to PC or another Samsung mobile

You will see the charging icon on your screen.
Wait till it shows charging with battery percentage.

Next, press and hold the Volume up and Side key simultaneously.
You can press the volume up button just before the Side key.
The Samsung Logo followed by
Samsung Galaxy appears on the
screen.

At this point, release the keys
Phone will boot into Android Recovery mode

In Android recovery mode, using Volume keys, choose "Wipe Cache
Partition" .
Use the power button to accept that.
You will then see its cleared.

You can also go into repair apps before going into rebooting

Then the top option, reboot phone.
Press the power button to reboot the phone and then sign in normally

This is the "dark" mode I have to deal w/ now. It's more of a inverted mode almost. Dark mode should not be this light. Either the background or the notifications should be completely black & the other a tad bit lighter shade for distinction.

I just restarted the phone, and it's worked ok since. Except for one problem with the display, which I had to reset that back to the original settings then restart the phone
