So I am new to forums here (had no idea they were here 😎) So I got a refurbished Flip 3 off of Amazon for around $250. A couple of months later I was emailed from Samsung for the soon to be released Flip 4. I looked into it and found that they would give me $700 for my Flip 3 to upgrade to Flip 4.
So that was a no brainer... I think with all discounts (PreOrder, Military, ect) I ended up paying around $75 total for that upgrade.
Then the Flip 5 announcement, who could resist that large cover screen, a free upgrade to 512gig and $900 trade in. After Military discounts and others it cost me $100 to upgrade from the 4 to the 5.
Now the 6 is out and I Preregistered to Preorder for the $50 discount to start things rolling. I picked my color then gave them my my trade in info (Promises of up to $1500 on trade ins..wow). Then my heart sank at the measly $650 trade in??? Let me recap $700 for a flip 3, $900 for a Flip 4 and $650 for a Flip 5??? On top of that they cut the Military discount less than half of previous years.
I don't know about the rest of you gang, but I am on a set Military disability monthly salary and I for one feel just plain ripped off at that promotion and offer.
Lets face it, the Flip 5 was 5 times the phone of the Flip 3 that I got $700. Mine is unlocked which is a higher tier phone for resale, 512Gig and now has the new AI features. And looks and functions just like new.
It took me a hour after launch to debate whether to go with the Flip 6 or keep my 5. But I sucked it up and used Samsung finance to make 24 payments on the remaining $400 for this upgrade. Before My Flip adventures I had a mint condition 8 year old Galaxy Mini 5 (forced to update due to new network requirements). Man I shouldn't have told all my friends that I was getting a Flip 6, they are only on the 3. 😝 Okay rant over, but Geeze Samsung, $650?
Edit: I just found out the "1 year of Care plus free" with this phone is not included on unlocked versions according to Samsung Care+ phone Rep. Would have been nice to know that as well.

I know I got a good deal before and I appreciated it. And I appreciate your view and comment. But my point was these deals are Samsung's way of rewarding their loyal following. I have owned no less than 12 of their devices in my 60 years. They make easily at least a million(s) sales all through provider networks sales. That being those companies AT&T, Verizon, T-mobile ect. That is Where their main source of income/profit is from. And I assume (I know 😎) that if they took that profit margin away from vendors then you will see a rapid decline on the "Get a new phone on us" on the contract phones as well, as that would take away from those companies profit margin.
All I was relating to is their advertising and Hype just ran out with no notice right up until you were closing the deal. They effectively shut the door IMHO on trade ins as I could have opted to sell my phone outright as that is pretty much the going rate. Half Price for something about a year old isn't what I consider a fair offer.
And consider that me owning their phones and showing them to others gave them no less than 10 extra sales, all that profit is theirs? Perhaps Samsung could start offering a Referral program?
Yes, that isn't what "I" paid for it but it is their retail price, that others do pay for and more. And Samsung doesn't know what I or anyone else paid for the phone, be it promotional or full price. But again, I made the decision to go ahead this time. But I will keep this Flip 6 for 8 years (Or as long as she lasts) I am done trading up to be in with the "Jone's. Heck the Flip 3 was more phone than I will ever need. Have a good day sir. 😊

Totally appreciate it wasn't the Trade-in deal you wanted, but congratulations on the purchase of your Samsung Flip⁶.

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.
I'm here to help. " This is the way. "
