Can you take the Sd card out and try it in a reader or another device to see if they are there ?
If theybare then try re inserting the Sd card into the phone and see if that helps it now see them.
If the images have somehow been wiped to which I can't see a software update doing _ but instead is more likely to be a Sd card issue then they might be lost if you haven't backed up to an online vault such as Samsung Cloud, Dropbox or Google etc.
