Samsung Gallery Stories using battery, even though it is disabled

Hi,

Hoping someone can help. My S25 Ultra battery is draining very quickly recently, when I checked what Apps were doing it I found Files by Google (so uninstalled it) and Gallery Stories was consuming a lot. 

I tried to disable customisation services like I had previously done on my S24 Ultra, but couldn't find the option so I found and disabled Gallery Stories after searching for a solution, yet when I check this morning Gallery Stories is the highest user of battery. 

My phone has been unplugged after charging to 100% for 2 hours and it's already down to 84%. This is ridiculous.

What can I do?

"The CMHProvider app handles image analysis for Stories. Clearing its data may help reduce battery drain. Go to the Settings app on your Galaxy S24 Ultra > Tap on "Applications" > Tap on the filter and sort button at the end of the app list, then enable "Show system apps" > Use the search function to find "CMHProvider" > Tap on "Storage" > Tap on "Clear Data" > Confirm by selecting "Delete". Note: Clearing the data of the CMHProvider app will not affect the images stored on your device. However, it will reset and delete the Gallery Stories, which will be re-analysed and recommended based on the new analysis"

Yo, battery drain on the S25 Ultra can be savage sometimes, especially with apps like Files by Google and Gallery Stories running wild.

Since you uninstalled Files by Google, good move. For Gallery Stories, even if you disabled it, it can sometimes still run in the background ‘cause it’s tied into the Gallery app itself.

Here’s what you can try:

Force stop Gallery Stories from Settings > Apps > Gallery Stories, then clear cache & data.

Check if there’s an update for Gallery or Gallery Stories in the Galaxy Store — sometimes bugs get fixed there.

Disable any “auto creation” or “customisation” features inside the Gallery app settings that involve Stories or Memories.

Turn off background activity for Gallery Stories (in app settings) if possible.

Use Device care > Battery > Background usage limits to restrict apps that drain battery.

If nothing works, a cache partition wipe or even a full backup + factory reset might be needed to clear corrupted system files causing battery drain.


Also keep an eye on Android System and Media Storage — sometimes they spike too. Hope this helps you save your battery!

I took the steps recommended by the person in the first response (very similar to your instructions) to see if it would help and it absolutely has. I believe I have the customization service already turned off.

The only additional thing that I did was remove permission for Photos and Videos from CMHProvider. 

I haven't seen a reoccurrence of the battery drain and everything seems back to normal.

I may have spoken too soon.

System UI is now using a lot of battery, even with the screen off. I'm gonna try a cache partition wipe once I can get the phone into recovery mode. 

Such a pity, is frustrating when a phone that had an awesome battery life suddenly has very little.
