S25 Ultra ultrawide lens video quality issue

I shoot 8K 24fps videos with the new log profile and generally I like the results very much. However, the video coming from the UW lens is very blurry compared to the photos from the same lens. This is not the case for the main lens, where photo and video details are quite similar. So I guess some very aggressive processing is going on for the ultrawide video. Since it's a software issue, I hope it's fixable via firmware.

See the comparison I made, does anyone have a similar issue?

Hi @Attila Bakos

Welcome to the community forum.

Yes, the ultrawide lens video does not look as sharp as the picture. There has been differences on pictures and videos taken from different lenses, but as you point out, it seems a software issue which hopefully will be corrected with future firmware upgrades.

Do you have the same problem whilst recording video in any other form or resolution @Members. WF?. How about HEVC 4K60 through your Ultrawide?. I have noticed that there is a soft focus issue on the Ultrawide when shooting video (in my case HEVC 4K60) and have logged an error report in the send feedback part of the Quick Help section in the Support part of this app. I would advise you to do the same. Good luck to you. 👍

I also tried it in HEVC 4K24 (with high bitrate option), and it was somewhat better, which makes sense because it uses roughly the same bitrate for less resolution. But I don't see how the bitrate which is roughly 80Mbps in the clips I used for the video is enough for the main lens to produce an excellent result but not for the ultrawide.

I have overcome my problem Attila by simply not relying on the autofocus when shooting 4K60 video through the Ultrawide. I always get it to focus by simply using touch to focus (and expose) with my finger on the screen. I feel as if I am teaching the lens to work in video. Since getting more active with the lens, I have had no focus issues with it. I even recorded a video yesterday in which I forgot to use touch to focus on the Ultrawide, and it all came out fine. So my lessons in focusing properly may be paying off. In photo mode, the lens is brilliant. Especially at 50Mp. I like working through problems in a device, as it kind of bonds me with the thing more, if that makes sense?. 😅 👍
