Hi

So this is my first phone with an always on display (the galaxy S25) and I thought I would use the always on display but I just had a thought, because the display is AMOLED does that mean if I use the AOD will it cause the screen to burn in in say 2-3 years time?

The Always on display clock etc is not static and does move.
This is to prevent screen burn in.
I have Always on Display all the time and never had any issues with the screen

Hi! Welcome to the Samsung Members community!

From my knowledge, screen burn for Samsung is very rare, but not impossible. The Samsung S25 with AOD is designed to minimize screen burn, but using AOD for extended periods can still potentially contribute to screen burn-in on the AMOLED display due to the constantly displayed static image, even if the phone is not actively used. Therefore, it is recommended to use AOD cautiously and consider adjusting settings like brightness and periodically changing the AOD design to mitigate the risk.

Thank you for your reply

I have the setting so that the AOD turns off if the phone is facing down, not being used after 5 minutes or im asleep (my phone faces down when im asleep anyway) so I am trying to prevent it, it only just occurred to me that this might become an issue in the future. As for the AOD design changing for longevity, I do have the now bar feature turn on and it shows my Spotify music playing, so it changes on average about 3 minutes from song to song.

Honestly, you should be good—my go-to for anything is using dark mode in my system settings. Be mindful—I turned AOD off as the effect on battery life is immense *to me

Always on display generally uses about 1% of battery percentage hour.
Though looking at my battery stats it seems my S25 Ultra uses less than 1% and hour.
But with the Always on display slightly moving around on the screen, you won't see screen burn
