An observation...and not something I remember from the S24u, is that when selecting the focal length, I always believed this was selecting the relevant optical lens (i.e .6x, 1x, 3x, 5x)

however ....

with a quick test by covering the lenses (which I encourage you to try out) this isn't always the case.

Mostly with 5x it seems, in certain scenarios, it will actually use the3x lens for5x and 10x zoom... But when trying to focus on something further away, it switches to the optical 5xor if you zoom past 14.9x, 15x switches to 5x lens.

Using 3x lens for 5x zoom not 5x optical

When moving to focus further away, it switches to 5x lens (covered by my finger...!)

No issues here...Just an observation....

For reference; if this is NOT something you want happening, Camera assistant allows this to be turned off 1740568439349.jpg

Depends a lot on the lighting. If it's lower light it will probably use a lower telephoto lens to allow more light on to the camera sensor. The more you zoom in the less light gets to the sensor.

Seems to be relative to the distance of the subject and the lens too (likely using laser auto focus)

Same thing happens for close up subjects I guess, switches to UW macro

I think it's a bit more aggressive in selecting lenses than past S devices. Most likely due to the faster ISP and neural processing engine.

I'm trying to take photos of the planets through a telescope. Which Samsung S25 ultra lens should I be aligning with the scores eyepiece for best results? Thanks.
