Part of our trip to San Francisco and to San Jose for the Galaxy Unpacked Event. We got to use some of the new phones.
I'm an Ultra Fan and my phone of choice.
But on this occasion I used the S25. Partly to see what using a smaller phone to what I'm used to.
Plus carrying the Z Fold 5 and S24 Ultra, the S25 was much more pocket able.
I make no bones about my disappointment of my S24 Ultra cameras. Sadly they are the main reason I'm upgrading to the S25 Ultra.
So with eagerness I got to work with the S25.
Now it was on pre release software, and a couple of features were not on the phone sadly.
So camera software may change slightly on the full release units.
Bare in mind that uploading photos here compresses them a bit so you won't get to see the full details. But hopefully you get to see enough.
So this photo i used the adjustable aperture feature. I set this to F2.2.
What it's done is reduced the depth of field and brought more of the locks more focus.
Clearly this feature works and for someone like me who's very much into photography.
It's going to be something i will use a lot.
Just to point out that this hasn't been edited and the colours are really quite accurate to what was there.
Details in the photo is brilliant as well.
This next photo, i was impressed because not only is it facing into the sun. But it's capturing some great details.
I guess this is the AI software helping to get this.
Even the wide angle lens does a brilliant job and using the lens to great effect.
Zooming in i thought would bring the worst results. But again, the camera software really helps to improve and sharpen the image result.
This photo of Alcatraz is not in full zoom, but the results are very good. Think this was 15X zoom. Certainly much better than my S24 Ultra could do.
Again really natural colours.
The photo below is the normal view so you can see how much zoom it did.
This next photo i wanted to check how it would do with a foreground subject and background.
In hindsight, I should have adjusted the aperture setting.
But as a point and shoot. This phone is going to work really well. It's got just the right amount of foreground blur to focus in on the main subject.
Again no editing or cropping etc. Straight from the camera.
Night photos are really good. But you need to keep the camera very still. As in auto, the camera will keep the shutter open a touch longer. So as you see in this photo that the details and colours are lovely. I really like this photo.
Was taken through a glass window as well.
I had to keep the camera up against the window frame to get no movement on it.
But generally in low light the phone does a great job
So next I'm going to point out something I noticed with the software.
There are a couple of images here where you see it working.
It isolates people and objects. Sharpens them up.
This one you see it's sharpened up the newspaper box and people standing by the road.
In this case I'm not a particular fan of the effect. Especially the newspaper box.
Looks like it's been added in.
Not sure if it comes across to well with the compression on uploaded images here.
But that said, it works a treat on pulling out details like the driverless taxi.
All the lines around door handles etc look crisp and sharp.
Even the detail in the brake dust on the wheels.
Got to say overall. The cameras are excellent on the phone does far. Really impressed with the colours and details.
The software that will come out on the phones when we get them in our hands I'm sure will have more adjustments and the features that were missing on the S25 i used. Like the best face. Was looking forward to that but wasn't on the phone to try.
Being able to adjust the aperture setting is a big bonus. And can adjust the depth of field that some find too shallow up until now.
Below are a few more random images I got.
