One UI 6.1 general feedback / ui suggestion fix / bugs / annoying

problems in this thread are related to all one ui 6.1 phones, from s24 and older.

so, i have been using my s23 ultra for a while now (with the bar and swipe side gestures), so here are some tweaks i wish samsung had done:

1. when you open the quick panel fully (swipe down twice), you have to swipe up twice to close it.
should be: swipe up once to close it.
why?
- if i want to see notifications or press frequent icons, like wifi/bt/etc, i can do it by swiping down once and then swipe up once to exit.
- if i want to see the full quick panel to access all icons, i swipe of course twice down, but if i want then to exit, always have to swipe up twice.

2. when you open some icons from quick panel in an expanded view (pop-up windows, like when holding bluetooth, wifi, or in the notification pressing on player widget - "media output", or some other icons i haven't found out), the area around the window is not clickable. if i want to exit i have to press done or do the go-back gesture.
should be: tap around the window to close its expanded view
why?
- it is faster and more natural, logical way. everyone is subconsciously used to it.

3. when you open some icons from quick panel in an expanded view, the home gesture (swipe the bottom bar up) is disabled.
should be: home gesture enabled
why?
- if i want to change wifi network, i press & hold wifi, click on different network, then want to fully exit. would have been a lot faster to exit with the home gesture, just one swipe.

4. when i swipe up and hold to view recent apps (see the previously opened apps windows), and want to press close all, i sometimes miss the button by a couple pixels.
seriously, could you make a small invisible outline area around the button also clickable? it is the only and most important button there, so much space around it, but the button is just a fraction. i guess samsung wants users to be dead precise, otherwise enjoy misclicks and confusion! (or mistaps i should say)

5. (s23 ultra bug, not sure if s24 or other phones have it too)
i have in the settings eye comfort shield "always on", because it is much easier on my eyes (enhanced comfort is off). screen is set to adaptive brightness (extra brightness is off). most of the times when the phone screen is off and there is a direct sunlight, you turn on the screen and for a 2-3 seconds the screen has eye comfort shield off, and then remembers to turn it on.
i don't know why, but it is not a $1500 phone feature. please fix it.

6. this bug exists, if you change the volume step in sound assistant app, from default 10 to 5 (i like it at 5), anytime you connect to any bluetooth speaker/headphones, randomly the current volume decides to drop by 1.
- example: at first i set the volume to 35, after a while it becomes 34. however the volupe step is still 5, so if i change volume, i don't see pretty numbers. very strange.

7. (new one ui feature?)
maybe not the one ui problem, but i wish there was a way to turn off toast messages for selected apps.

- example: if you full screen a video in browser, it always shows the annoying toast "drag down to exit full screen" - like i haven't about it over the many years, or that i can't tap the icon in the video player. ridiculous and annoying imo.

8. (gallery app)
when deleting selected items from gallery in a grid view (whether its in a "pictures" tab or albums, doesn't matter), there always appears a pop-up at the bottom that shows "deleting progress" - that completely blocks any usability of the app while it is running.

so for expample, anytime i want to quickly delete an image from screenshots album (that i selected from a grid view), the phone basically tells me "well, you have to wait 3 seconds while i erase this 278KB photo" - erase pixel by pixel apparently lmao.
solution: instead, put it in a toast notification or a regular one in the quick panel. and when you delete any content from the grid, it disappears right away from the grid, while the deleting process peacefully happens in the background:)

9. if you turn on bluetooth, there always shows a popup window. i want to turn it off, but there is no such setting.    i have only one bluetooth device and it connects automatically, i don't need this window.

10. when using samsung keyboard, holding shift + enter would be kinda nice, just like on pc.    for example when typing this text here, to move to the next line without creating the extra space associated with paragraphs.

11. you take a screenshot, and immediately want to trim it - when you want to trim the bottom of the screenshot, it triggers the swipe bar!

there are many other little things like that, which should have been fixed right away, but i found the workarounds for them via good guardians apps. (also ridiculous. basic stuff, not even related to customization)

1) just tap on the screen (outside of the box) and it will close fully.
2) Don't know as don't use swipe
3) as 2
4) as 2
5) Don't know as don't use eye comfort shield.
6) Module is part of Good Lock. Reach out to Good Lock devs directly
7) Doesn't happen for me. That toast message disappears after 2 seconds. S23U. Cannot replicate this.
8). 3 seconds confirmed. What do you hope to achieve in 3 seconds? It also gives you the option to cancel..which is useful.

For #7, have you tried going into Notifications, then App Notifications and changing what forms of notification each app can use? It gives you options like you see in my screenshot.1721630668752.jpg

toast notification is the kind of notification that pops up at the bottom of the screen. it cannot be interacted with and pops up for only couple seconds. and no, there is no way to take control of it.

1) if if you open the quick panel half way, yes it closes with a tap outside the box. if you open it fully (swipe twice), it won't close with a tap.

6) thx, will do

7) yes the toast disappears, but i don't want to see it at all

8). if i want to go to another album, i have to wait over this "useful message". i don't really see the point of cancel, since when you delete anything you choose to delete it first. and there is the trash bin anyways, where you can permanently delete or restore.

1). Try a long swipe up to the top of screen. Seems to work.
7). Seems dependent on which browser one uses. Don't get toast message at all in Samsung Browser.

1) kind of a workaround. i use the phone in the right hand, and when i reach with thumb to the quick panel it is easier to swipe the right corner that the middle or left side. when you have the long swipe setting on, the right top corner will always show full control panel. but then it is uncomfortable to open the quick panel half way to see notifications:(

7) yeah i use chrome:(   will test the samsung browser, thx

I use Edge, which does show the toast message. Okay, so, what are we left with 3,4,9 + 10
Unfortunately, I don't use swipe gestures, hate them, so can't test 3 + 4

9). I see that pop-up contains all my connections. I have 10 in total, so I find it handy so as to remind me what's paired. But more importantly, it shows which devices are available to be paired. It also contains the 'scan' button.

10). Agreed shift + enter does not create a short break. Not tried Gboard so unsure if bug in Samsung keyboard or framework in general.
What I would like to see is the ability to change the behaviour of the backspace key when long pressing on it in browser web address bar. Starts off slowly, then suddenly wipes the entire text string. Annoying.

9) can do the same by holding bluetooth in quick panel. i would rather use that over this popup

the keyboard thing, i was extremely angry with this myself as well, but i found out this:

install goodlock (or finelock if goodlock is unavailable), then install the keycafe, and in its "advanced keyboard setting"  menu, tick the switch: turn off delete accelerator.

:face-with-tears-of-joy:

Thx for that. Even though Samsung keyboard was set to Normal delete speed, Keycafe setting disabled the instant wipe at the end. Cheers
