Lock screen notifications

Can anyone tell me what this setting actually does , if tried it on then off but it doesn't seem to do anything , thanks

I think it shows that you have notifications but yiu need to unlock your phone to actually read it.

What that feature does is when you unlock your phone it shows your notifications but if the phone is locked it won't show them

Yeah and specifically unlocked with your face, which can happen instantly and some might just want to read the notifications there and not go to the home screen for instance.
