Interruption part-way through Smart Switching to new S24Ultra

I was using Smart Switch to setup my new S24 Ultra from my previous Samsung phone. However, this was interrupted mid-way and before completing the full transfer. Can I simply repeat the process and will it affect the content that has already been transfered. My SIM card is still in the old phone. I'm using it until I know everything has been switched to the new phone.

It should not affect the content on the new phone. It will try to transfer all the content from the old phone that can be transferred. Apps like WhatsApp, Viber will not play ball with SmartSwitch. You need to backup them into the cloud before you activate them in the new phone. You also need to select to restore the backup when the app is starting for the first time on the new phone.

If you have any concern with repeating the SmartSwitch process, you could always reset the phone to factory defaults and start the process as it were new.

I recommend to do a backup of the old phone to a computer with SmartSwitch, then move the SIM card to the new phone. You will need your SIM on your new phone to check that all is working correctly.

You will have to factory reset the S24U before starting the transfer again.

Otherwise you get duplicates of whatever transfered across before it was interrupted.

Also, I would use a cable, speeds up the procress abit when transferring via smartswitch 🙂

Also, if you have whatsapp, that will need it's own backup to Google drive, via settings, and then you can just reinstate it on the new phone, and bring over the backup 🙂

I had the same issue when using smart switch to move all of my SMS, apps, photos etc. The culprit was the SMS messages. I select to do all and there appears to be a bug, I deselected messages and choose the last 30 days and it worked flawlessly

I transferred my all my SMS messages and got no problem, but I only transferred messages and contacts.

Thank you Reylob. I think I'll go down the factory reset route and repeat the SmartSwitch process as if it were the first time. I'll move the SIM card once completed then I'll tackle WhatsApp seperately.

what an absolute agony and pain this smart switch process has been! 

I have been trying to transfer all my data from iphone to s24 ultra for the last 3 days and still have not been successful. I have been using iphone for the last 6 years and it would take around an hour for everything to be trnasferred and setup on the new device and you are good to go. 

Even in 2024 Samsung could not work this thing out, and I have been watching youtube, googling and searching communities and this information seems complex and convulated. I am totally regretting moving to s24u, what good is the phone if I cant get my messages, whatsapp and other stuff.
