Hi all,

Does having the Device Care App Protection need to be on and do any of you not use it and if so why not?

Should it be on or off?

Thanks.

@Jammy97: I would certainly recommend enabling this feature (Settings > Device care > App protection > Tap the 3 dots in the top right > App protection settings > On), as it helps to keep your phone safe from malware and suspicious activity.

I'd put it on 😊

I have it switched on. As it keeps your phone safe and secure. If you enable auto blocker and maximum restrictions, this should provide strong protection preventing your phone from getting malware and hacked.

Thanks. I only asked as I saw a YouTube video saying that it drains battery and as long as you download apps via Play Store and Galaxy you don't need it. That's why I questioned it. I have it on. Thanks.

It won't drain your phone battery. I've had it switched on ever since I had my S23 in 2023. Can say it won't drain your phone battery and it won't affect performance.

That's good to know. As I said, I only asked because a YouTuber said you can just rely upon Play Store and Galaxy Store and don't really need to have App Protection on.

I guess there are pros and cons with Play Protect and App Protection. Samsung App protection is powered by Mcafee, meaning that mcafee runs the malware scan functionality, and they regularly update their database to provide protection against the latest threats. Ideally, it's good to enable both Play Protect and App Protection 👍
