Hi all & apologies if this is a stupid question? But when I try to boot up my s24ultra, by holding the power button & volume up(so I can get the boot options etc screen) it won't let me do it. I've tried loads of times, different ways(ie,just holding the volume up button, hold both power & up button, even volume down button!) But still won't get to that screen! It will boot to safe mode when I hold all 3 of the buttons though,so I don't understand why it won't boot to the screen I want to get to? Reason I need to is,because I've read that if you clear the battery cache thing,it really sets it which should stop the battery drain I'm getting, since updating to one ui7(its so bad!!) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Or if anybody has any other way of getting to that screen or a way of clearing/reseting what i need to,would really help. Thank you in advance. Tc

Very first step is you have to plug the phone into a pc/laptop- people normally miss this step so it doesnt work- once charging you then- (keep phone plugged in the entire time)
*Turn off device
Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Power key.
• When the Android logo appears, release keys

*ps- next steps for cache partition
• Use the Volume Down button to highlight Wipe cache partition.
• Press the Power button to select Wipe cache partition. • Use Volume Down to highlight Yes.
• Press the Power button to confirm the action.

Hi & thank you forthe reply. What i don't understand is that, when I first got the phone(as I do with every phone, tablet I get) it used to let me boot up to that screen,by the volume up/power button, without a connection to PC etc?. I've also seen a lot of videos, of people booting up this way(volume up & power button) & getting to that screen? So I can't understand why,my phone won't do it now mate?, its really annoying!! As I'd said,my reason for needing to get to that screen, because the battery drain is absolutely ridiculous!! Before the update, using my phone, the same as I do now, would last atleast 2 at a push 3 days, now I'm lucky to be left with roughly 15% in 1 day! Its so annoying, that samsung are aware of this issue(along with others since update!)& haven't put out a fix for it!? I've searched all over to see if there's any other way to be able to wipe that battery cache etc(as people have said, once they did that, the battery seemed to reset & battery drain went?. But I can't find any other way to be able to do/get to that ?? I even thought of contacting samsung direct, but not sure where/who i need to write to? Just in the hope of them having a solution?? Sorry for going on,its just I'm so annoyed about all this,as I have to restrict now what I would normally do on my phone, incase I run out of battery 🔋. Can't even risk playing to many games!! Again thank you for replying & if you have any other ideas/solutions etc,I'd be very grateful 🙏. Tc

The connection to another device is a requirement now. The device could be another phone, TV, laptop, PC, tablet, but another device is needed to boot the phone into recovery mode. It has been this way for quite a while now.

You can always check Device care to do some manual optimization.

Settings -> Device care  (If the phones needs it, it will show a button to do it)

To write to Samsung, you could use the members app, tap the support tab and scroll down to feedback.

Oh right thank you. So why do I have to connect to another device? What's that do? It doesnt need to read or add anything to it,does it?? (Sorry, just new to all this!)

It's something to do with either verifying the device, protecting for stolen phones, or simply to just make it so you can't accidentally go into the screen.

In terms of battery tips look at the comments here

Oh right, but if its not having to read or write anything, then how does that help? As john237 said, plug into a laptop & once its charging, turn off phone, then do the whole volume up/power button thing, then should go to that screen? So I don't get why or how that changes things? (I'm probably being thick?) But just don't understand what difference it makes(get what I mean?) Tc

Its more so to verify something before allowing you to boot into the menu. so someone coudnt just factory reset your device randomly/ someone could do it on accident- being that menu can be used to wipe the device. Adding the step you need to plug the phone in makes it just a little more complicated for that reason. This was changed a while ago, this not being a new change *I believe it was Android 11

Oh right,so it doesn't need to read or right anything on/from my laptop then? Would it just work if I plug it in to charge?(considering it doesnt need to do anything from/on my laptop then?) What could I do if didn't hv access to a laptop?) Thank you so much for all your replies, with advice, its really appreciated. Tc

No, it doesn't read or write anything, no worries there. It just needs to acknowledge the phone. I'm pretty sure it works plugging into headphones (though I've seen people say that's iffy and doesn't work), TVs, laptops, PCs, and even console controllers. Ive only ever done so via a laptop.
