What's happened to updates for S23+ ?

My last OTA update was the August 1st patch in mid August. I'm in the UK with a Hong Kong model.

That will be why. Hong Kong model won't update in the uk it has to be a UK device.

What about using a VPN ? Also I did received an update in August.

i dont think a vpn would change it, your device can detect where the location of your phone, which cell tower it is connected to etc, which means because your out of the country it was bought in, it cannot update.

What if I buy a Hong Kong esim and make a 5 min call in the UK. I believe this unlocks the regional resistriction

Sorry, but this is wrong. I have the same model and it does always update although the September update was late in the month.

Update, I,ve just received the September 1st update , so I guess my Hong Kong S23+ will get OTA updates........but just with a 5/6 week delay ! Which is fine.

Just realized, it doesn't matter what region your phone is ftom and what part of the world you live in. You get the updates on your phone when it's released ,,,, .....regardless.
