Upgrading from A52, is it worth it?

Hi, I I'm due an upgrade from my a52 soon and though fond of the phone I have been considering looking at an s22 or the newly released s23, but on paper, My a52 is actually better almost in every category. The elephant in the room is of course battery as my A52 is trumping a 4,500mAh which compared to the 3,700mAh of the s23 is noticeably larger and I'm worried my use-time will take a hit as a result of the upgrade.

On top of this I am wary the s22 and the s23 are more alike then they are different and my phone provider can offer me last years s22 at the same price (on contract) as my current phone. So it leaves me in an awkward position where I could be getting a worse phone for the same price of a better Mid-range device.

Does anyone have any ideas or opinions as to what would be the best upgrade or whether I stick with what I've got?

This is a very subjective thing.
The new phones will have some battery optimisations and newer chipsets are more efficient.
But all comes down to use
You do of course have the A53 with a 5000 mAh battery if this is a concern
You have the S22+ and S23+ if they are not too big for you as well

I hadn't considered the A53, thanks. Battery isn't a major concern but it can be a significant factor when it comes to decision making. I suppose it's a value for money thing and I'm unsure if I'd be getting the value of a flagship device, though the newer chipset and longer update support is naturally an attractive prospect, I'd still want to be sure I'm getting the most from the device.

I'll consider my options and definitely throw the A53 in the mix. Thanks again

Not that familiar with the whole line up but I have use of an A70 (not that new) similar sort of size screen but noticeably slower in general use, camera is no contest with my S22U, would likely be useless for games, vibration motors are mushy but its a less expensive phone...

Really depends what your budget is and what you want to do with it.

My Mrs has the S22+, it's really nice - fast, well built, great camera, great screen but to her...it's 'just' a phone 😂

I would image alot of people don't use flagship phones to their full capabilities...

Hello @Lachnessmonster

When I'm ready to buy my next Samsung phone I do my due diligence before pulling the trigger.

  • Check out YouTube reviews. I follow creators such as Flossy Carter and The Tech Chap just to name two !
  • Check out Tech Sites such as sammobile.com
  • Visit a Samsung Experience Store and or Network Highstreet Store to have hands on with a retail model on display.
  • Check out comparison sites for the models I'm interested in.
  • Look at cooling off periods if I find the phone isn't for me.

Upgrading / switching phone's is a personal thing and depends on what the new model(s) bring to the table for you and your usage habits.

Above all enjoy the journey  😎

Excellent process, thank you. I tend to read a lot of reviews from GSMarena, Sammobile, Andriod Authority and the like. I find they all tend to say the same kind of thing though.

I'll will definitely give this all a go before settling on anything!

I upgraded from A52 5g to s22 ultra. Big mistake and in my opinion the A52 5g is just as good. As my Samsung A52 5g is better as you are able to increase storage sim card. And the s23 ultra is only slightly upgraded s22 ultra. Samsung are doing what Apple have been doing for years. Bring out the same phone with the very least upgrade making you pay twice for the same phone.

The A53 is a good mid range phone with 4 OS upgrades and support till 2027. Also bear in mind that the A54 is due out in a couple of months and will probably be a slight improvement on the A53.
