Using Smart Switch to transfer data from my S9 to S23 has been so frustrating and requires so much work that I wish I hadn't bought the new phone. All my pictures are out of order and apparently according to the help team that is just a known unfixed issue for at least a year. It sucks. All my memories are ruined. Almost none of the apps transferred their data and logins over so I spent ages trying to get back into everything. I am angry at such a colossal waste of time

Hello, can you be more specific ? Did you do this on android or on windows ? What if you already have pictures from smart switch saved to PC and are seeing all pictures have the same date modified ?

Hi. I did this on my phone. I still have some pictures not in the right place but much better than before. Im not sure what to suggest there I am afraid. That might be a question for a windows expert! Does it show a "Date taken" as well as a "Date modified" or is that also incorrect? A quick google shows this https://www.elevenforum.com/t/restore-photo-date-taken.12621/

For me that app fixed the issue:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.duong.imagedatefixer

It restores the file modified date from the Exif metadata capture date. In case no metadata is present it is also possible to restore the date from the filename if it has a date in it.

Strange thing is only 10% of the images had a wrong date seemingly random what made it real annoying.

What is did is I removed the whole SD card location on the S24 and plugged in an card reader and copied it directly.

That did the trick and now all is fixed.

There are various issues with whatsapp on android. One, pictures I sent to someone, when I was at an airport, were flipped or reflected horizontally like it's a mirror of the original picture I sent. When I saw the picture I sent vs. the picture that was saved inside my gallery app, it was flipped horizontally. Second, when someone sends me a duplicate photo, whatsapp doesn't update the filename to reflect two or more instances of that duplicate photo, instead it always updates the timestamp when duplicate photos are recieved thereby, the same photo will have the "latest" timestamp. if Whatsapp had stopped doing this, then tracing back duplicate photos in a group chat would be ALOT easier. Third, when a duplicate photo is received, sometimes whatsapp or samsung would randomly remove the duplicate from the chat, so I won't know if the picture was sent twice, three times, or 4 times...as the picture just vanishes from the group chat. This happens at random and inconsistently.

May I ask, card reader...yo mean micro sd card adapter or another device to read micro sd cards ? most sd card readers/adapters are formatted as ExFAT or FAT32 which would mess up the timestamps and truncate to 2 second resolution.

Hi everyone!!

I'm having lots of trouble sending my data from my old samsung s10e to the newer one, Samsung s24.

I'm having 3 problems....

1) exactly what everyone pointed out. All of my pictures being mixed up.... In my case deleting pictures and restoring them from the trash can did't work.

2) Lot's of them appear as a grey thumbnail with an exclamation mark, I'm not sure why... Is it because they didn't transfer well? Is it because it's content that was in the SD card? Have no idea why this is happening.... 😞

3) I was wondering... If I get a new phone and transfer my information using the Smart Switch app, and then restore a WhatsApp backup, will the photos duplicate?

I asked ChatGPT but feel the need to be certain of its answer as sometimes he commmits mistakes... Is this answer so?:

"No, you should not encounter any issues with photo duplication when using Smart Switch and then restoring a WhatsApp backup. Smart Switch transfers all the information from your old phone to the new one, including photos, apps, settings, etc. When you later restore the WhatsApp backup, the app will simply retrieve your messages and media files (such as photos and videos) specifically from your WhatsApp chats.

What WhatsApp does is store its photos in a separate folder within your phone's storage. So even though you transfer images with Smart Switch, the photos restored from WhatsApp will be saved in this dedicated WhatsApp folder, not interfering with other images on your device."

In any case I'm hating all this migration process, it's taken time, enery, and even health from me, it's really awful...

I would really appreciatte whatever help you can give me, thanks in advance

I was able to sort this out downloading tha app "EFIX Image and Video Fixer" (free version only fixes dates in 50 pics, but for 5usd totally worth paying it will correct all dates), and fixing the date in the pictures IN MY ORIGINAL PHONE. Then, I used Smart Switch with a CABLE (not wifi as I did on the first time, I restored it to factory setting before trying this again differently). It worked! Not only copied pictures in the right order but it did it a lot faster. I used a USB-C to USB connector that I had from my prior phone to do this. Also, all the pictures I had with a grey thumbnail and an exclamation mark are gone =D

I tried first other solutions I read in other places that did't work:

- Erasing and restoring the pictures from the bin

- Using the Efix app directlyon the new phone with the mixed pictures (it solved some of them but not all)

- Doing a backup in my computer and then dropping them in my new phone. Maybe because it's such a heavy load I was never able to get them off the phone, it would tilt each time I tried to grab them from my phone into my computer.

Hope this is useful!! :smiling-face:
