S23 ultra macro woes

I used an iPhone 14 Pro max for 2 weeks while waiting for this s23 ultra to release and the macro camera on that iPhone is phenomenal. You can literally touch the lenswith something and it will stay in focus. I created some spectacular super-close ups using it, very easily.
This s23 ultra however, is very disappointing. For everything except macro it's very very good but super-macro shots are far from it
The lenses will change on their own just as you get focused on the subject, which is very annoying.
I need to hold the camera quite far away from the subject and use the optical zoom to get a closer shot which doesn't work very well.
Why is it so hard to get this right?
I love samsung phones and if the camera was a good a the iPhone camera, it would be the ultimate perfect phone. But it isn't.
Please try to fix the macro so it's better and more user friendly.

When I played with an iPhone 13 Pro, I definitely noticed that I could get closer to the subject than I was able to do with my S22 Ultra.

The S23 Ultra is no different, but I did notice that the photo was sharper, see below:

Now I gotta ask, is this a coloured contact lense?

As there is no dedicated macro mode for the S23 Ultra yet, could someone explain to me how to fake it? So you use the Camera Assistant app to prevent the phone from switching lenses automatically, and then what mode or settings do you use to take the 'macro' shot?

Yes 😀 I wanted a "test subject" for the macro mode. All the little dots in the design are almost invisible to the naked eye, but can be picked up when in macro mode

That's pretty cool. I always assumed a coloured lens would just be a uniform colour filter.

Just move the camera closer to the subject and it will come on by itself. It's not exactly intuitive tbh but you'll get used to it.

I've been messing around trying to make sense of the macro on this and it's actually an absolute mess, it requires an update for sure.
Wether the lens switching option is on or off in the camera assistant app it makes no difference, macro is about getting as close as possible, the lens just switches, you can get right close and just before you take the shot the lens switches, something isn't right there.

Agreed 100%
It's very annoying and not what you'd expect from the best device available from Samsung.

I'm sure I didn't have this issue with the s21 ultra, how can it go backwards

I came from the s20 ultra which had no macro mode either so can't really comment on that.
If only the camera on this was as good as on the pro max 14 I just had for 2 weeks while waiting for this, it'd be the perfect package..
