You can backup and restore call logs via Samsung Cloud. If you want to get a file like an XML that you can read on your PC and other devices, I used to use SMS Backup & Restore - Apps on Google Play
It's straight forward enough to use, just make sure you change your default messaging/calling apps back as necessary.
