I am absolutely disgusted with what happened just now. I received an ADVERT in my notifications from galaxy store and I could not disable notifications or find any option for ADVERTS in the galaxy store app. This is absolutely disgraceful and I AM LIVID.
I eventually found your method of disabling these things and it is very clear that SAMSUNG IS EMPLOYING DARK PATTERNS. This is abusive and I will not stand for it. you need to change this right now. I have been a loyal customer of samsung since 2013, and every one of my Phones has been a galaxy since then, but I GUARANTEE YOU if you do not fix this abusive behaviour right now, my next phone WILL NOT be a samsung phone.
This is absolutely DISGUSTING behaviour from what I have thus far believed to be a reputable company.
FIX IT.

There is an option to unhide the notification categories. As far as I recall the 'notification categories' used to be in every app, but for some reason, galaxy store has this hidden. (gee, I wonder why) So you have to go into phone settings, notifications, advanced settings, 'manage notification categories for each app'. Of course this shouldn't even be an option, this is a dark pattern and it is highly concerning. it's bad enough that they have locked the notifications so we cannot disable them. last time I checked, this was my phone that I paid £1300 for.

Wow...have you had a bad day ? This is the Biggest over-reaction EVER ! 'LIVID'. DISGUSTING.
For me you are thinking a bit too much about this. How can this get you so angry ?
I mean i kind of understand the main reason for your post...'forced and unsolicited 'advertising, but in this day and age of mass advertising, it is commonplace, and is a thing of the world these days.
Amazon are doing it all over their Prime App now...
Google advertisements everywhere in their apps...
Sky TV have more adverts than programmes !
This is as well as pretty much every other company and retailer. In this world of online ordering and with retail stores and outlets plummeting, it is pretty much the only outlet for promotion. Personally I would just 'swipe left' and ignore it. Or if you prefer you can just get really angry and worked up about it... it is up to you.
p.s. I don't normally post such blunt replies, but your tone and over-reaction in this case, deserves such a response. I sincerely hope you have a better day tomorrow.

I have ADHD, distractions are a major concern for me. on a worse case scenario, a distraction can make me forget something like food cooking and could result in a fire that could be catastrophic. It's never gotten quite that bad, but I do not respond well to things like this, especially when I have paid so much to own this device, I'm not renting it, and I've given Samsung a lot of money to own this. I expect there to be very simple options to quite simply say "do not bother me", not for the options to be locked and for the opt-outs to be hidden. This is a very real threat to me and has cost me money in things like wasted food, etc. I can't afford to have distractions coming from left and right and companies seem to keep fighting to create more distractions.
edit: and before anyone suggests I get rid of my phone, I actually rely on it for the calendar reminders so I don't miss important appointments etc.

ok fair enough, and i should give you some credit for explaining this... apologies if i have not been understanding of your condition.
I guess my point is that if this kind of problem is important to you, then you should probably never go an an amazon webpage again... stop subscribing and watching netflix, NowTV, SkyTV, no more forums or websites that are littered with advertisements everywhere.
As I said earlier, I do understand that unsolicited advertising can be frustrating, but it really is the way the world goes around nowadays.
I for one HATE the world now. I am in my 50s, and things were so much easier in the 80s and 90s before the level of technology has taken over. However we all have to adapt... embrace... and change with the world.
Kind regards
smiley
