I have had my S23 Ultra for 3 days now and am BEYOND delighted with it. Fantastic camera and display and battery life and speed and smoothness and thermal control and absolutely zero bugs or faults. A true delight to own, but it is the improvement in video quality (in auto mode especially) over my old S21 Ultra that needs emphasizing and praising. Technically, Samsung has finally upped the bitrate in it's video over my S21 Ultra for example. This means there is more detail and information being processed in it's video in every second of recording. My S21U records indoor 4K 60 video at 41.7 Mbits/sec which was never enough in my opinion in comparison to the equivalent IPhone for example, and led to detail dropout in low light amongst other things which was more evident on Exynos models. In the S23 Ultra they have upped the bitrate to @75Mbits/sec. The difference in quality is wonderful, especially when coupled with the new AI and 200Mp pixel binning sensor and brilliant stabilization onboard. The indoor low light video quality through the main lens now is sharp and detailed and of good contrast and has excellent noise control and is up there with the IPhone 14PM for example, in this scenario in my opinion and the opinion of others, and even slightly ahead in sharpness of detail.
I don't have to back down from recording indoor birthday parties anymore in fear of my video looking very poor on a large monitor. I am so very happy with this and maybe waffling on a bit but I have been praying for this improvement in a Samsung flagship for years. With the 50% improvement in bitrate comes a 50% hike in video detail. The hike in file size (9 minutes of 4K 60 (HEVC quality) now takes up @4Gb) is the price that I will happily pay for such quality video. Well done Samsung.
