Why is there 2 messages apps

Can someone help me why there is 2 message apps which one is original and best to use ?

With samsung phones you get alot of double apps one from Google and one from samsung. In my opinion the top one is the best which is the samsung version.

Hi @Jordy0897  It is a matter of preference  but I prefer the design /functionality of Messages which suits my needs.  only Samsung Messages allows you to retain Deleted Messages for 30 days within the Recycle Bin.  Know that some prefer Google for RCS (Richn Communication Services ie  chat).  Think they can both deal relatively effectively with Spam though use different methods.

You have either Google messages or Samsung messages , one has to be made the default message app. I use the Samsung one as Google tends to be like the WhatsApp chat version.

I use Google but have turned RCS off in settings (found it somewhat unreliable)

I don't want two app to work for one function. It's too excessive.

How's that possible? I'm on One UI 5.1 and it's impossible to disable one of them now.
