I'm trying to restore text messages from a Smart Switch backup, stored in the default location: C:\Users\user\documents but all i get is this message. The original phone was a J4+ and the new phone is an S22.

Smartswitch didn't work for me so I used SMS backup and restore (on play store) and it worked like a charm!!

Yes so you can't make a backup first? On your old device? That's what I did

Yes, I did make a backup but it was about 2 months ago and the previous phone's been sold. It's this backup that smart switch doesn't recognise.
