S22+ charging issues

Hi all,

I own an S22 Plus and recently noted the following:

  • When charging the mobile using a Fast Adaptive Charger (18w) and using a USB A to USB-C cable, charging starts, stops after a couple of seconds, then starts charging again after about 2 minutes.
  • When using a 25W USB-C charger Super Fast Charging commences without any issues.

I noticed this recently.  What could be the issue and how can I solve this?

Thanks

Are the charging cable and brick / plugs official Samsung variants @LionelB  ?

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.

Yes its a Samsung Fast Adaptive Charger and a Samsung cable which were provided with my previous Samsung mobile (Galaxy S9+).

Thank you for clarifying @LionelB

Can you check that your phone's charging port is clean using a torch.

There is also a diagnostic tool in your Samsung Members App under the GetHelp section that includes a test for cable charging.

Dear @BandOfBrothers ,  thanks for your assistance.

I can confirm the below:

-  USB Port is clean
-  Did the test and it actually passed (due to the fact that the phone charges for the first 5 seconds)

I need to clarify that I also tried a 3rd party USB C charger and also a USB C power bank (rated 25w) and a USB  C to USB C cable and had no issues.

Dear @BandOfBrothers ,

Just found this news item:

Samsung Galaxy S22 series 'slow charging speed' issue troubles many (piunikaweb.com)

It describes the issue spot-on! ... And yes, I noticed the issue about 2 days ago and I owned this mobile since April!

@LionelB: As a 25w adapter is required for Super Fast Charging, but only 15w is required for Fast Charging, it is possible that your 18w charger is causing a conflict or sorts. With this in mind, as a troubleshooting step, please try heading to Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > More battery settings, and toggle off Super Fast Charging. Now, if you connect your Galaxy S22+ to your 18w charger, does it continue uninterrupted?

Dear @AndrewL ,

Thanks for the info.  tried your instructions but to no avail.

On the other hand I had tried charging the mobile when powered off (both with fast charging and super fast chaarging enabled) and encountered no issues.

So this is only occuring when the mobile is on.

I am really suspecting that this is a software issue or due to a buggy update.  (Even when looking at the link I posted previously).  Next step is to try a factory reset and test immediately.

Update:

Factory reset did not solve the issue.

I would suggest then to send your feedback to Samsung directly via your Samsung Members App under the GetHelp section so this anomaly can be looked at @LionelB
