I will also add, phone cases can affect signal quality as well as how you hold it.
It's possible your friends phone has a larger antenna, but you can get differences in coverage strength and speed from the same network provider depending on the type of contract.
Also with 3G services set to wind down now, 4G and 5G services will be more of a priority for manufacturers that directly supply the UK Europe markets.
I carry 3 phones everyday and the two on the same network quite often have different signal strengths in whatever makes of phone I put them in.
Both on the same contracts as well.
Try contacting your service provider and see if they can push network settings to your phone. Sometimes that can help as well
