With everyone saying the S21 Ultra has so many problems was it a mistake buying it and upgrading from the S10+ or is everyone the full on techy folk that are expecting more than it is?

ok if you have just factory reset then it will optimise for a few days. only then will you really know... I would expect it to improve.

have you installed the software updates ? running AUB9 software version ?

Will see if there is any kind of difference after some days but I'm not optimistic at the moment. Yes, I'm with AUB9.

maybe your battery is defective. I've got 12 hours since unplugged. 3hours+ screen time and still have 63% left.

the s21 ultra is easily the best phone there is(well my one is 😁).
yeah there have been complaints about overheating and such from some users, like Bishop10 said this was a bad batch I'm guessing.
me personally I've had no issues at all, this beast of a phone does everything I want, great battery, performance, design and the screen is 😍.
I sometimes take my phone out of the case and just stare lovingly at it(yes you read that right🤣).

you should run it with high performance games, HD and ultra HD videos and trick the battery learning into thinking you're a power user, if the battery learns you don't have a lot of screen on time that's what you get, if it thinks you're going to run it hard it optimises it for a power user and screen on time is a lot better.

This actually no make sense for me (maybe I'm not right!). Let's take a example of car and fuel in the tank -> if you drive your car normally, your car will can pass more distance. The battery must working on same principle  (in my opinion).

yes but a car doesn't take time to learn how you drive it, the phone for instance thinks that if you don't use your phone much it can ramp everything up and give you performance over battery and your battery suffers, as mine did and was very poor for the first week or so, once it worked out how I was using my phone it knew when to give me performance and when to slow down to save battery. I can now use YouTube and games and video calling on my breaks at work and do quite a bit of texting, after a 12 hour shift I get home with around 48 percent, my SOT can easily be hitting 7 hours plus by the time I need to charge it.

There is actually some sense to this comment. Personally I just optimised my phone to my normal usage patterns, using Maps twice a day for my commute, a couple hours of video and music... and quite a lot of web browsing and social.

My phone now defaults to somewhere between 5 to 7 hours SOT from full to low battery. This means that with my 3 to 4 hours of daily usage, i can get closer to 2 days between charges.

There is a guy on here that boasts 13 hours of SOT in a day. I am not sure exactly how that is achievable, although he optimised his phone usage pattern by playing constant 12 hours of Youtube videos, one after another, during the learning phase. It should be said that with the screenshots that were posted, that this 13 hours SOT is measured purely from the constant playback of 12 hours of youtube.

Without understanding all the tech and science behind the optimisation phase, then I couldn't comment on how this optimisation actually works, and I am sure that this 13 hours SOT would not necessarily apply to the daily usage of the phone in a normal way... however by doing this whilst it is optimising, then it may improve the battery life to be optimised for heavier users.
However in my own engineering brain i would also ask myself the question how this might affect the long term longevity of the battery. In my mind, I believe there would be a trade off between optimising the battery for heavy usage, and optimising the battery to settle into an "average usage mode". The average user could put less strain on the cells, and therefore provide a longer term better battery life over a few years. However, the higher usage profile might cause some worsened battery deterioration over time. This is only my own ramblings though, so there are no facts behind this comment. I would be interested to know from Samsung just how this learning / optimising phase can affect the phone and battery.

Personally I use my phone for 3 to 4 hours per average day. I think if you have a demand for 13 hours SOT in a day, then a phone is the least of your problems !! That kind of usage is just pure unhealthy, and you should get out more (oh wait we are in lockdown ! 🙈)
😂😂😂😂😂

A last comment is that your SOT calculated time will highly depend on what you are doing with your time. Highly intensive gaming can drain your battery by 12 to 15% per hour of gaming. Video stream a little less. Browsing is low drain, but constant switching on and off the screen and switching between 60Hz and 120Hz refresh rates can also drain the battery. Even the Always on Display features highly in a daily battery drain calculation.
One persons usage habit is different from another person. And that is why it makes this quite hard to compare.
I think you should achieve at least a baseline of 5 Hours or more, regardless on usage. However this will improve after the learning phase is completed.

I actually intentionally tried to be wasteful with my S21 Ultra when I first got it by keeping all the features on, Bluetooth, 5G, NFC, WQHD+, 120hz etc and battery life was still exceptional (10h+ SoT).

It's a shame the variance between users' phones, but believe me the phone is phenomenal on battery life when things are working as intended.

I'm just finishing up a run of the phone 100% off wifi to see how it lasts, so far it's still decent, especially considering my intermittent 5G signal. This is inclusive of around 5h+ of streamed music to my Buds Pro.
