Phone app

Why when my phone rings does the phone app not open. All I get is an icon on the Notifications bar. I have spent hours trying to find the cause.

Try checking settings. - open phone app - tap the 3 dots at top right - settings - call display while using apps and change it to full screen

Done that makes no difference

@rsageofdunstable: Does this issue occur when you're not using the phone e.g when it rings while idle? Can you try heading to Settings > Notifications > Advanced Settings > Floating Notifications, and set this to off (if applicable) to see if this helps?

This is already set to off.

I do have a Samsung Galaxy Smart Watch 3 could this be causing the issue
