Hi,

Is it better to use Smart Switch or USB device to backup and restore phone data during changeover to new phone? Previously, I used Smart Switch but sounds and backgrounds didn't seem to transfer properly and I wondered if, maybe, the USB method picked up everything in the phone and copied it across? Any help, greatly appreciated.

Thanks

This time round I transferred my data over by USB-C cable.
Seems to transfer everything I use perfectly fine.
My wallpaper etc is just like my old phone.
If your using a phone a few years old to transfer data.
I'd be inclined to backup everything I can to cloud
Then setup the new device from fresh.
Takes a bit longer, but you won't transfer any old or corrupted data from the old phone.

I'd personally not use wireless data transfer, as some have been experiencing problems.

Going from S10 to S20, I used smart switch. No issues at all

I did the same with S20 to s22 and again, no issues to report.

I have though set up a OTG MEM CARD ON A USB HUB. ... Using a mem card on a Anker hub to back up everything (uses usb c3)

next full reset etc I'll use that to restore
.....
If I helped or solved your problem, please like or tick solved.

Have been using phones since 1993, and am self taught.

I offer advice for free, cos I think it'll help, if it doesn't, explain why, I might learn something new too.

Current phone Galaxy S22 Ultra
Previous phones: most S series, Note 2, Samsung Alpha, iPhone 3gs, far too many Nokia's!
