Hi I had the same issue, I cleared the Samsung messages app & the Google messages app data, I started using the default message app (Google messages) & now its working, I'm using Google messages because it has more features, make sure after clearing the apps data you go through the same procedure off setting up the chat messages in the apps settings.
It's working how it should.
