I think it depends how the service using 2FA is configured.
Google will just check with a Yes or No for example as long as you haven't also configured it for Authenticator. I think push checks are a lot more practical than Authenicators - which normally are a real faff if you change phones!

This is NOT a solution to the problem described. I also just started to get a lack of pop up for the Microsoft Authenticator. Notifications are set properly. I would say it started after a Jan 2024 security update.
