Hi. I used unlimited data for ages and had this option worked properly on galaxy s8, s9, note 10,etc. but in 2022 when using note 20 ultra, I can't download updates without WiFi. What is different now? What can I do?  Many thanks. M.

Hello!

None of the suggestions worked! Samsung why do you prefer us to connect to public wifi instead of giving us this option to dowload updates over data? Wifi can also crash... So for me it is not an argument...

You put us on security risk with not allowing data downloads!

Be careful of downloading updates in cafés or other areas. I started an update in a coffee shop then had to leave halfway through and the update stopped and locked the phone. I had to do a factory reset to get it going again. Luckily it had backed up to cloud earlier that day.

The wifi on my phone stopped working a couple months ago. It just won't turn on. The button is greyed out and when it press it it says starting but never actually turns on. There's a pending system update that requires wifi to download. I see some instructions about this but they require the wifi to work to access the setting to not require it. I have unlimited data but I can't get past this.

Also suspiciously since this update has been pending and I can't download it my battery seems to drain much faster than before. Planned obsolescence? Seems suspicious to me.

@MrCousteau what if any troubleshooting steps have you taken please 🤔

i.e clearing the phone's System Partition Cache Files Section.

There might be further steps you can try by performing a forum search.

Ultimately you may need to let a Samsung Service Centre have hands on.

If i can be of any further help please don't hesitate to ask  😎

I tried everything including wiping the phone entirely and starting over. The wifi still will not turn on.

Hi I just got the best option if you have a friend or family member who has enough mobile data tell him to make a hotspot and after you connect to his hotspot it will work I just tried and it works ,this is the option that I thought myself because I tried others and none worked

Yea! That just worked for me! I had, from previously but no longer,"update only on wifi"was turned on...didn't even know that existed.

Thank you!

@BandOfBrothers

Like I think I replied ,your answer worked!

But...guess what, last night, I could not get the Theme app itself to update even after turning on"use mobile data if no wifi" was on?

Drove me crazy.

After going thru every app, especially all Samsung Galaxy apps, some of Samsung apps by themselves, have to also go directly into the Samsung app that still won't update, go to that particular settings, and there although I now had update with data on, in that app it still had on update/download with wifi only????

I couldn't believe that! So I of course changed that setting in the app itself to "use mobile data if no wifi" on,and if updated??

I mean mu g**,it is not just good enough with some apps to have use mobile data, make sure you then have to go to app settings?

This is crazy! Thought you'd might be interested in that..😆🤦🏼‍♀️
