Hi All,

What I have:
Galaxy Note 9 (dual sim version)
Clear View case

two samsung wireless chargers

First it worked ok but several months later (could ber after an update to android 9 but not sure) wireless charging become unstable.
How it looks:
You place a phone on a charger and there is a red light on a charger so it "sees" a phone. But hte wphone whether doesn't start charging or starts and stops after several minutes with "wireless charging paused" message. I tried diffreren tricks:
Removing a case and placing back, restarting, removing the phone from a charger and placing it back. The effects are unstable, sometimes it helps, sometimes not. And with time it becomes worse, currently it practically doesn't charge wirelessly (wired charge is ok).
What I also tried: everything.
All updates are installed.
Restarted
Restarted in a safe mode
Cleared a cache.
Tried different cable

It doesn't help.

Finally I did a factory reset. Well, first hour after it it was charging but as I told, it is unstable and while I was installing the software and copying data back the problems returned.

It is hard to say whether it is a hardware or a software pb.

Any ideas?

Hey @ElDog,

Sorry to hear you're having issues with wireless charging. Would you mind trying to boot your Note9 in safe mode to check whether it's a software issue and report your findings back to us? https://www.samsung.com/au/support/mobile-devices/how-to-start-your-device-in-safe-mode/

Also, since you're on the Dutch community; should you happen to speak Dutch, please do!

Just as I mentioned in my original message, I've already tried to restart in a safe mode. No changes.

My Dutch s not very good, sorry.

I saw that being mentioned in your first post indeed, but I wasn't sure about the results of charging in that mode. Some people don't realize safe mode is just for diagnostics and won't solve anything by itself, so that's why I was just making sure.

Do you happen to have any other devices capable of wireless charging around? You could use them to check whether the issue is with the chargers or the phone.

Unfortunately I don't have another charger available anywhere near. Will try when I have a chance.

Btw, the internet is full of reports of the same problem with wireless charge of a very different models of Samsung phones. It would be nice to report it somewhere to a technical department.

Understandable, since you're already experiencing this issue with two wireless chargers. With "another device capable of wireless charging" I was referring to another phone or wearable, so you can test the actual chargers.

I'm assuming they're original Samsung wireless chargers. Would you mind sharing the model code, which you can find on the sticker on the bottom of charger as well as on the box?

I've got a Note9 as well and no wireless charging issues whatsoever, so at least it's not a software issue with wireless charging in general. So we're really troubleshooting here whether it's a hardware issue with your phone, with your chargers (while it's rare that two chargers are having issues at the same time, it's possible) or perhaps a more general issue with the Note9 and this specific model wireless charger.

Taking in account that it happens with 2 different chargers It's nearly for sure a pb with the phone indeed. Btw, I can't try with a third charger but what I tried is to put other phones which support wireless charging on these chargers for a short period of time and they charged ok. Of course, it's not a 100% proof because the problem phone also sometimes starts charging.

Charger's models: EP-P3100 and onother one with a stand, I don't have it here, but most probably EP-N500.

As for whether it is a hardware or a software pb I'm not sure.

But: it's a problem which is discussed in the internet a lot. See one of the articles here:

It would be nice to attract Samsung's attention and get some official answer about this.

Yeah, in that case the problem definitely seems to be with the phone. Especially on the charger with the stand, what happens when you put the phone horizontally on the charger instead of upright? It could be that the wireless charging coil (the internal component the phone uses for wireless charging, which is in a slightly different position compared to older, smaller phones for which those chargers have been originally designed for) is no longer providing enough strength to reach the charger's coil and have a stable charging connection. When you put the phone horizontally, it should theoretically reach the coil better and provide a stable connection again. Would you mind letting me know if that's the case?

I'll forward this thread to Samsung as well so they can have a closer look at it as well.

I tried placing it differently on both chargers. In general, placing it in a different position sometimes makes it to start charging (only to show "wireless charging paused" message minutes after) but not always. As I told, it works in an unstable manner and it is very hard to tell what causes it to work again for some time. For example, what often (but not always) helps is partially removing a case from one single corner of the phone and placing it back - as if I started removing a case but changed my mind. If then you place it back on a charger it sometimes (but not always) continue charging for some time.
