Well the new Samsung I got my wife for Christmas doesn't have a charging block, which I already knew. But what I did not know was that the cord would be USB c to USB c. None of our older Samsung have the adapter. My Samsung is a type C but the other end is normal USB 3. So for people who don't have any of the USB 3 / USB c cords, they will have an unhappy Christmas morning. More corporate nonsense to save a few pennies but at the expense of good customer experience. Errrrr!!!! Plus this is even more sad for people who may be getting this as their first phone and have no charging brick. Errrr bah humbug!!!

USB C is becoming an industry standard. Especially since the European Union ruling. Hence why Apple now has to use USB C in their phones.
It's not to save any money, as the cost would be negligible anyway.
It's also to help out environmentally, as less types of chargers need to be produced in the long run

As @Glenntech has said, this is not corporate greed but standardisation by the EU to reduce electronic waste.
If the user has:
USB C to USB A that will work.
USB C to A adapter.
Wireless Charger if supported on device.
Totally get that not everyone will have a C to C charger but they are commonly available now so would be achievable in the next day or two from shops.
