Hi @PoppyoftheNorth The Galaxy A5 was officially taken off the support list in early 2021, it was announced there would be no more security updates https://www.gsmarena.com/four_galaxy_a_phones_from_2017_will_no_longer_receive_security_updates-news...
it would only be eligible for 2 os updates and so updated to Android 9 , also known as Android Pie.
I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

July 2025 and after eight years of loyal service I've had to finally purchase a new phone to replace my A5 (2017)
But it only needs a new battery, that's all.
The only gliche I have encountered was in the past two months when my bank app would not re-install as my A5 runs on Android 8 and the bank app now requires Android 14. No problemo, I got round that gliche by going via the browser route.
My Samsung A5 (2017) is still functioning for all purposes, it's just the battery that needs replacing and then once that is fixed I'm sure that my trustee companion will enjoy a long retirement as my secondary back up phone.
Eight years long service ( five of which unsupported) and still going strong, what a legend! 🙏
