@pjm68 you also free up memory in Device Care via Memory by stopping Background Apps. Worthwhile checking the Diagnostics via Members App-Support-Phone Diagnostics to see if anything is detected there,as has been mentioned though the A Series are not super fast as they use middle range processors.
Physical damage can also effect speed though may not be relevant in this case.

As a workaround you could activate Developer Options and then change the animation scales that makes the phone look to work faster. 😉
In regards to if the phone is working slow i.e accessing the Internet then this could be a multitude of things including old sim card , mast congestion etc, build up of apps etc on the phone using internal storage.
