Dear Samsung,

As a long-time Samsung user with a 512GB microSD card for media, I’m deeply disappointed that the Galaxy A56 5G lacks expandable storage.

The microSD slot is a key selling point, as cloud solutions aren’t reliable in remote areas. A 512GB card is also far more affordable than upgrading internal storage, making it a cost-effective solution for users like me.

I realise i could use an otg reader for an sdcard, but that is nowhere near as convenient a having the upgradable internal storage available.

This feature helped differentiate Samsung from Apple, who never offered customers the freedom to expand memory.

I feel this move is regressive and urge you to reconsider including microSD slots in future A5x series models. I love Samsung phones and was eager to purchase an A56 but am now exploring alternatives like the Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G, which supports expandable storage.

I’d appreciate a response on Samsung’s plans for this feature and hope to remain a loyal customer.

Sincerely disappointed,
Phil

I'm afraid removing the SDCard slot is becoming the norm, you'll be pushed to finding a Samsung device with a slot increasing hard in the future.

Samsung doesn't monitor this community as it's a customer to customer based forum.
The humble expandable storage is gradually disappearing. Not just in Samsung devices but other manufacturers as well.
Partly because phone storage is more reliable and easier to use.
But a great many consumers use cloud storage now.
I liked having the SD card.
But with having larger storage options on phones now.
Along with cloud storage. I've learned to adapt

lolz, I tried posting in support/ feedback and they responded saying i should post here 🤷‍♂️

I'm likely just gonna have to live without the internal sdcard, but i don't have to like it 😂

The removal reason is probably to make you buy a phone with more storage, that's usually the reason.

Though sd cards aren't very fast. There's a possibility it was removed as if people put apps or photos on it, it wouldn't be anywhere near as fast as the phone itself. Then people think their phone is slow. The switch 2 does this, it only works with special fast sd cards to ensure games don't slow down.

SD cards are simply getting too slow to keep up; all brands are starting to move past such technology. Cloud services are the new standard, with internet access being almost ubiquitous in modern society—it is rare to go anywhere without it—but the main concerns are speed and reliability in meeting modern demands. This is my opinion, but it also seems inevitable; they are going regardless, just as all forgotten tech will.

It was still good to post to request, as if enouth agree with you- who knows?

SD cards are notoriously risky. If they fail, you lose the lot.

Appreciate you have to pay but cloud storage is the way.
I am not employed by Samsung nor do I receive any remuneration as a Samsung Members Star.

My device is an S25 Ultra.

It seems pretty fast to me, absolutely comparable to the internal storage. I think this sdcards are slow thing is a bit of a myth tbh 🤷‍♂️SxDV9zx8oo.png

See i don't believe this claim sdcards are slow. I just ran this benchmark on my phone and the internal and sdcard speeds are absolutely comparable 🤷‍♂️bN5Xn6QfNy.png
