Lately, photos taken with the camera app on my Samsung A53 gets compressed. It's like the ratio between the length and width gets messed up. It doesn't matter if I take photos with 64 or 16 megapixels, or 1:1, 3:4, 9:16 or full size. However, photos taken with other apps, for exemple Snapchat, looks normal. Any ideas?

Make sure you have the latest software update for your device.
Within the Camera App, press the Cog Wheel (Settings). Here go through all options & functions that are available. I have disabled Scene Optimizer. Also, here there is "Settings to Keep" such as the Aspect Ratio you mentioned. So tick "Camera Mode" within it. These will not change in the future on its own.
My advice is considering to make use of the new tech/ format of HEIF Pictures & HEVC Videos. I use it as standard on my A50, with the perception with significantly better images & videos. Read more about these elsewhere. Images with .heif are utilizing the camera hardware more fully with its algorithm, while also being less in size, relative to jpeg.

Thank you for your answer. I tried what you said, but unfortunately, it didn't help. It seems as if the problem occurs mostly when I take photos of things close by, for example a plate of food. When I take picture further away, they turn out fine. My camera app is version 14.0.00.87

Same here (on two A53 devices) looks like it started happening mid Februari 2024.
Pictures taken with Open Camera do not seem to be affected.
Samsung Camera app version 14.0.00.87

I still have the same problem. Switching to Open camera app now instead.
