Phone only charges when it's powered off

My phone only charges when it's powered off but when it's on it does say it's charging but percentage isn't going up.  Could it be a software or a hardware issue? I've also tried restartin g and switching cables.

1. It could be your charger not providing enough power.

2. It could be your battery.

3. A faulty component, send it in to get checked by a reputable technician.

Maybe you have 2 damaged cables? What charger model you have?

is there any hope to this? i would just sell my phone as defective if not.... samsung technician in SM cant understand the problem and even local repair shop cant give me a definitive solution..

1. phone will charge only when its shutdown

2. no matter the charger phone wont charge unless it's shutdown

3. super long time to charge when turned off. would need literally 8 hrs to full charge.

4. tried to ask if they can just replace the charging port the shop will say they don't have the tools nor the knowledge to replace it confidently. 
5. if there is someone to replace it they would charge 1500 but they are not reputable nor they are affliated with any retail shop nor they have authorization to fix said device. 

if i want someone to fix my phone i would want it to be with someone with skill knowledge and authorization/affliation and training. i wouldn't mind paying 1500 if he is actually legit.

I have the same problem now, post latest update on July 17.

I suspect that my phone, when on, can detect that the USB C cable isn't a "genuine" Samsung cable, and is simply choosing not to charge, because the exact same cable charges the phone when it's turned off.

After the 64MP camera issue, now this.

For a phone that's less than 1 year old, it's also getting noticeable slower every time there is an update.

I'll live with it, but I won't ever buy Samsung again.

I am experiencing the same problem. The phone (XCover6) is less than 1 year old.  600 euro. The last Samsung I ever bought.

Same issue.

When OFF phone charges.  But when on, shows it is charging but is not.  What is going on Samsung??

Tried with different cables/chargers and with 3 different wireless chargers.

Please can we have some update on this issue Samsung or is this Community just a dumping ground that Samsung never actually looks at?

This is LITERALLY the same issue I have. 

And the issue is you have to basically dismantle and open up my entire phone to get to the battery, so I can't even try and buy a new battery and pop it in to see if that could perhaps be the problem.

At this point, I might just have to buy a new phone and be done with it!

Don't hate me, I caved in and bought a Samsung USB A to C cable, so now it charges every night.

I HAVE A SAMSUNG A04 AND LASTWEEK IT STOPPED CHARGING AND IT'S CHARGING ONLY WHEN IT IS SWITCHED OFF AND IT TAKES THE WHOLE NIGHT ONLY TO REACH 81% ONLY.  SAMSUNG PLEASE DO SOMETHING THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING THIS PHONE IS ONLY A YEAR OLD.....
