Persistent UI Unresponsiveness in Google Apps on Galaxy A20s (Android 10)

Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing a long-standing issue on my Samsung Galaxy A20s (Android 10, fully updated) that only affects Google applications. The problem has been present for over a year and occurs intermittently, but some buttons are consistently unresponsive.

Symptoms:

  • In Gmail: After composing an email, the "Send" button sometimes becomes unresponsive. I have to close all apps and reopen Gmail to send the draft.
  • In Google Security prompts: When confirming sensitive actions (e.g., downloading Google data), the buttons "Yes, it was me" / "No, secure my account" are always unresponsive.
  • In Google Account settings: Tapping "Security & Sign-in" or scrolling sometimes fails, requiring multiple relaunches.

Important notes:

  • This issue only affects Google apps. All other apps (Samsung,  third-party) work flawlessly, even when testing the same screen areas.
  • Android System WebView is up to date (currently version 139.0.7258.158) .
  • Chrome is also updated.
  • Cache and data have been cleared for affected apps.
  • Battery optimizations have been disabled for Google apps.
  • The issue persists across reboots and even in Safe Mode.

I suspect a deeper incompatibility between Google’s UI components (possibly WebView or Play Services) and Samsung’s One UI on this device. Has anyone else experienced similar behavior on the Galaxy A20s or other Samsung models?

Any insights or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Your phone is out-of-date and without Google support for a long time. Recently Google disconnected support for Android 12 and Android 12L.

So I guess you sideloaded Android System WebView and Chrome and probably you are correct-these apps are not compatible with your Android version

Thanks Sonora.

Feature Suggestion
Since Google apps continue to receive regular updates via the Play Store, it would be helpful if Android provided a clear notification—either a push alert or a message within system settings—indicating when the operating system is no longer supported or receiving security updates.
Most everyday users don’t actively follow tech news, and without such a warning, they may assume their device is still fully maintained.

You might be better off upgrading your phone to a newer A series. When a phone stops getting software updates, bugs and vulnerabilities can occur. If you tried all options. Then a factory reset is a last option. But if it doesn't solve the problem, then you're better off upgrading your phone.
