Formatting SD Card

When I go to format my 512gb sd card the phone shows 20 percent done and then hangs. What ever you try and do nothing works after a about two minutes it then shows the Samsung logo, hangs again for about two or three minutes and then reboots. It hasn't even formated the card at all. If I then format it in pc to exfat it shows as 500gb and you can read and write to it correctly.
