Hey there DNS9!

A DNS is a Domain Name Server - basically, when you type a URL like google.com, that URL gets sent to a DNS server which will send your device to the right IP address.

Basically, DNS servers are the reason we type URLs instead of IP addresses.

Hope this helps,
Tom 🙂

DNS stands for Domain Name System.

It is basically a database, like a phonebook. When you want to visit a site like YouTube, it will look up the ip address for that site so it can take you there.

Some DNS servers are faster than others at the lookup process, so you may choose to use one over another, or some may keep logs of your requests, and so you may change your DNS to one with a better privacy policy.

Thank you! Do you think that I should go with a Private one or public?

Depends if you care more about privacy or speed.
And as for speed, it depends if your actually having slowdowns due to your default DNS.
You'll have a public one by default, provided by ur isp.
Private ones are usually used in businesses and work behind the firewall, for obvious reasons.
