A lot of today's photography is in software. Sure a bigger sensor is always better but look who's always on top of smartphone camera leaderboards - it's the ones with the best software usually.

Ain't that the truth. The software Samsung uses to process photos compared to Google pixel phones, is truly terrible. If it moves, it'll be blurry, if it's bright the whites will be over exposed. I was forced to learn pro mode, which isn't exactly point and shoot.
