Hello,

I just bouhgt  an SSD 990 Evo Plus 2TB to use it as additional storage, but the disk does not appear in Disk Management nor Samsung Magician or my PC, but it appears in Device Manager and BIOS. I already tried updating the drivers through win update but it didn´t show anything there to be updated.

Hi all,

First of all thanks for your help to resolve my issue. Although it didn´t work, I really appreciate you taking your time to help me.

I was finally able to propperly install the SSD. It turns out that Windows added it to the Storage Pool before it was even initialized and that´s why it didn´t let me add it as a drive in Disk Management(it didn´t even appear there at all).

This is how I was able to resolve my issue.

Checked Storage Pool to see if it's added.

To find Storage pool:

Start>Settings>System>Storage>Advanced Storage Settings>Storage Spaces

If you see the SSD added to the Storage Pool you have to remove/delete it from it.

Then open Disk Management. You will now see the SSD there and ready to be Initialized.

Now you can normally setup your drive, hopefully :smiling-face:

I hope that helps others with the same issue.

Hi @Mantxu

It sounds like your SSD is detected at the hardware level but isn’t showing up as usable storage. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Initialise the SSD:

    • Open Disc Management.
    • If the SSD is listed but unallocated (it might show as "Not Initialised"), right-click on it and select Initialise Disc.
    • Choose GPT (GUID Partition Table) if prompted and proceed with creating a new volume.
  2. Assign a Drive Letter:

    • If the disc shows up as unallocated, right-click on it and create a new partition, then format it.
    • After formatting, you should be able to assign a drive letter to it.
  3. Check BIOS Settings:

    • Sometimes BIOS settings may cause issues with detection. Ensure that the SSD is connected to a SATA or NVMe slot that's enabled.
    • If it's an NVMe SSD, check that the PCIe slot is in the correct mode (e.g., PCIe 3.0 or 4.0).
  4. Update Firmware:

    • Since it’s not showing up in Samsung Magician, check if there's a firmware update available for the SSD from Samsung's website.
  5. Try a Different Port:

    • If it’s an NVMe drive, try a different M.2 slot. If it's a SATA SSD, try a different SATA port on your motherboard.
  6. Reinstall Storage Drivers:

    • Go to Device Manager > Disc Drives. Right-click on the SSD and select Uninstall. Then restart your PC and allow Windows to reinstall the drivers automatically.
  7. Check for Conflicts:

    • If the SSD appears in Device Manager but not Disc Management, there could be a driver conflict or issue. You can try right-clicking the SSD in Device Manager and choosing Update Driver to ensure it's using the correct driver.

This is common for new hard drives as they are not initialised. As mentioned earlier you can use windows drive manager to create a new partition. Alternatively if you have an external drive enclosure for M.2 disks you can set it up via USB slot before you install it. Once you have set up a partition you can either format it in windows or via magician as it should see the drive once it has been initialised. Hope this helps

Hi @AsadM,

Thanks for your aswer.

I went through all your tips and:

1. The disk does not appear in Disk Management at all.

2. The disk does not appear in Disk Management at all.

3. Both my NVMe slots are enabled. I have another Samsung NVMe SSD that works in both slots, but not this this new one. Tried in both sockets.

4. Can´t find the firmware anywhere and can´t use Samsung Magician as the disk does not appear there.

5.  As mentioned above, tried in both of my slots.

6. DId as mentioned but same thing, it appears in device manager but not anywhere else.

7. Also did it but but windows update can´t find any drivers.

The only thing I didn´t try is what @PaulC59 is suggesting, but don´t have any external drive enclosure for M.2 disks to set it up via USB, but I would like to avoid buying any other device that I won´t use after installing the drive in the socket once is working. I will try that if there are no other options though.

Thanks both for your help.

I have same issue. Drive is initialized using Disk Management and formatted. Windows 10 OS.

But Magician Software (latest version 8.20) Shows the Drive but says does not support the Drive.
Need Data Migration asap
Please help

I ended up trying with an external drive enclosure via USB as menioned by @PaulC59 , but id didn´t work. I also upgraded to Windows 11 just in case, but same result, the disk does not appear in Drive Manager nor Samsung Magician or my PC, but it appears in Device Manager and BIOS, so I can´t create a new partition of a disck that doesn´t appear in Drive Manager.
