Hello,

I'm using the supplied samsung cable and I'm only getting a write speed of about 23 MB/s. Is this normal? It's an Acer PC, with a 2.1 USB input. Thanks.

it depends what the driver supports in terms of speed, there's a name for it but I'm not sure what, search it up. or open task manager and look at your specs.

Not sure to be honest. Specs seem fast enough and it's got a 2.1 input so it should be faster as far as I'm aware. It's slow on my Mac too.

I bought several T7 Shield of 2T and 4T, from different stores at different times, and ALL of them after not being used for a few months only deliver a Write Speed of LESS than 2 (two) MB/s. I have read about this issue in many postings. What can be done other than reformatting the drive ??  I have tried writing to them for many hours at less than 2 MB/s, and the speed does NOT change. NOTE: reading speed is still good enough, between 300 MB/s and 600 MB/s.  This is on Windows 10 and 11, and I have all the recommendations about drivers, settings, etc.

This is an issue affecting lots of people who buys Samsung external SSDs. Kind of a hassle especially considering the price point of the SSDs. It shouldn't need to "warm up" for hours then finally write at like 500MB/s for a while. After a while the SSDs will only write at around 2MB/s. This happened to all 3 of my Samsung enternal SSDs. My other external SSDs work fine.

I just created a NTFS partition and enabled TRIM with Samsung Magician and it has no slowdown at all. I thought that TRIM was enabled by default although it is not.

Add me to the list of people having problems with this Samsung device. Mine is a T7 Shield 2TB, directly from Samsung shop, new in 2023-08. I paid a bit extra for supposed reliability... joke's on me!

It works great when formatted fresh, but weeks/months later of real-world usage and backups will slow down to 2-4 MBps. This has happened twice now after formats (which are a huge PITA...), over span of 1-2 years. Confirmed problems via Magician (slow benchmarks, scans), Crystal DiskMark, Explorer file transfers. Oddly, it starts to perform properly after some time connected to PC, but after dis/reconnected has same problems again. Latest failures even saw the drive disconnecting by itself during transfers!

I typically only plug it in for a couple hours per month for backups. Tried exFAT and NTFS, different cables and ports. Windows 11 Pro, latest drivers (AMD PC from 2020), SSD firmware, etc. I have an RMA auth for latest failures, but since it requires formatting to remove personal data, the drive will work "fine" when they receive it (I wonder if this is part of why they haven't been able to ID or fix this problem).
